Kemper Museum of Art Wedding

Wedding

Courtney and Shawn tied the knot on July 30, 2022 on a warm summer day in Kansas City, MO! The couple held their wedding reception at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, which is located in downtown Kansas City just off the Country Club Plaza. Guests got to enjoy the museum’s stunning collection of contemporary art AND the building’s unique architecture during the reception!

Courtney and Shawn met online and had their first date in Milwaukee. According to Shawn, he knew as soon as he saw Courtney that she would be his wife one day!

For the proposal, Shawn (with the help of Courtney’s friends) planned the perfect surprise. Courtney’s two friends from college came to town to visit her, which was a pretty regular thing according to Courtney. She figured they would have a girl’s night and go out to dinner because it just so happened to be restaurant week in KC. After dinner at Stock Hill, her friends wanted to wander around the Plaza for a while, which is a really popular and well-known area in KC. When they came up to the pedestrian bridge, Courtney noticed a proposal scene and said to her friends, “Oh my gosh! Someone is about to get proposed to!“ Little did she know that someone was her. A second later, she noticed Shawn standing about 10 feet away. He popped the question in front of the plaza lights and he arranged for Courtney’s close friends and parents to be present as well. Courtney said it was an amazing night!

I was lucky enough to photograph Courtney and Shawn’s engagement session as well! We took their photos in Milwaukee near Shawn’s hometown and where they used to live together, and they got married in Kansas City which is where Courtney grew up!

Now, back to the wedding day. Overall, the day was super relaxed from start to finish. Courtney and her party got ready at The Truitt, a boutique hotel in Kansas City. The old brick mansion-turned-hotel was the perfect backdrop for getting ready photos.

The couple chose not to do a first look, but it was worth it. As soon as Courtney started coming down the aisle, Shawn was in tears. It was just the sweetest!

After the ceremony, we had a TON of time for portraits…which made my photographer’s heart so happy!. We started at their home to get a few photos with their dog. Next, we ventured to The Peanut, a restaurant that they frequent, then off to the Rose Garden at Loose Park, the Scout View of Kansas City and the Plaza where Shawn proposed. We got to explore the city and take our time, which was so much fun and I loved all the variety in photos. And as soon as we got back to the reception, it started to rain, so the timing couldn’t have been more perfect!

During the reception, you could really see the love everyone had for Courtney and Shawn. The speeches were beautiful representations of the deep friendships they’ve created over the years. After the formalities were taken care of, it was time to dance! Everyone had a great time out on the dance floor, especially the bride and groom!

Courtney and Shawn- I absolutely loved being a part of your wedding day! You two are perfect together, and I’m so excited to see what your future holds! Love, TK!
